Party
Activity Survival Tips
Problems can arise with party activities and the better you are prepared before
hand the more successful the outcome will be.
· Games
may go faster than planned. Plan extra games and activities
as they can go more quickly than planned. If there are activities that kids want to play when it is time to move
on, don’t spoil the fun by rushing them, your next planned activity may not be
so successful.
· Don’t overlook
crafts. Crafts will keep children entertained for longer periods of
time and usually won’t finish as quickly as games.
 · Avoid idle
time. Games that require kids to take turns or face elimination
may result in boredom and poor party behaviour. Always ensure that there is
always something to for the kids to do, even if you set up a coloring station
or toys for kids when not participating. If there is a child that is not
participating because they choose not to, encourage their doing so or give them
a simple task to keep them busy.
· Competition
should be eliminated in young children. Young children don’t understand
competition and it can lead to hurt feelings. If using prizes, give every child
a prize to make every child feel like a winner.
· Plan an
activity to accommodate the staggered arrival of guests. Plan an
ice breaker activity that guests can join in easily as they arrive. Pass the
parcel, decorate party hats or even set out toys to entertain the kids while
they get to know one another.
· Don’t
choose games that are too easy or two difficult for the age range of kids. If
there is a large range in age, aim for the lower end of the spectrum or the age
of the majority. If there is a child that is unable to participate, be sure to
give them a role, consider allowing them to help direct the game or a task to
keep them involved.
· Get creative with your games. Make your
game the game that your party guests will forever remember, get creative and
put your own twist on any traditional party game and make it fit your theme.
· Plan
traditional party games. Traditional party games include everybody
and cost practically nothing, plus most kids will be familiar and all will
enjoy!
