Indoor
Party Games

The weather can be unpredictable and if you are hosting a party
or looking to entertain the kids on a rainy day, these indoor activities for
kids are for you. A rainy day shouldn’t
put a damper on your fun; these games are fun, exciting and will liven up any
party. Don’t be afraid to get creative
with these games and tailor them to the appropriate age level.
Musical
Chairs- this is a classic favorite for young children and is a great
way to have fun while burning off some energy. Depending on the amount of room you have to play, set up the chairs (one
less than the number of children playing) either in a circle or in a row back
to back. As you play music the children
must walk around the chairs, when you stop the music children must sit down as
quickly as they can in chair. The player
without a chair is eliminated. As one
player is eliminated remove one chair. Make
this game more exciting for older children by creating some of your own rules,
for example, instead of walking around the circle they must hop, skip etc.
Balloon
Race- Divide children in to teams, the size of the teams should
depend on the number of players and space you have to play. One player from each team is chosen to go
first, the remaining players line up behind them. When every team is ready to begin the first
player runs to a turn around point with a balloon between their legs, when they
get back to the start line they pass it to the next player. The first team to
finish this sequence first wins.
Twister- this
is a fun game enjoyed by children of all ages.
Freeze
Dance- The only thing that you need to play this game is music that
you can start and stop and some kids that are ready to have lots of fun! As you play music the kids dance, when you
stop the music they must freeze in the position they are in. If a player is caught moving they are eliminated,
be reasonable they still have to breathe! Elimination is not necessary in this
game if you are just looking to have a fun time. To make the game even more exciting, players
can win for the wackiest dance, longest time frozen without moving etc. Don’t
be afraid to get creative, that is what makes it so much fun!
Two
Truths and a Lie- This game goes by many names but is always fun,
how well do the kids really know one another? Begin the game by having the kids
sit in a circle and choosing one person to start the game. The players must say two truths about
themselves and one lie; the remaining players must determine the lie. This game continues until everybody has had a
turn.
Pass
the Parcel- Before the party begins, wrap a small gift in
several layers of wrapping paper. The
children should sit in a circle to begin the game, as you play music the
children pass the parcel around, when the music stops, the child holding the
parcel removes one layer of wrapping paper. Continue the game until the gift is unwrapped.
Tip: this game can be disappointing and upsetting for young
children, if you wish to make every child a “winner”, you can include a small
gift in each wrapped layer and give every child an opportunity to unwrap the
gift. This way, everybody wins!
Ha Ha
Ha- Some
games are just funny and this is one of them. Have the kids stand in a circle and choose one player to start. The kids take turns, going around the circle solemnly
saying “Ha”, this is where the game gets fun because the players aren’t allowed
to smile or laugh, if they are caught they are eliminated. Laughter is contagious, how long do you think
this game could last at your party?
Mummy
Wrap- Players should be divided in to teams of two and given two
rolls of toilet paper. One player from
each team will be “mummified” and the other player will do the wrapping. When each team is ready to begin, teams race
against one another to “mummify” their partner. The first team finished wins.
Chain
Reaction- This dance game will be fun for everybody. Before you begin the game, choose one player
to be “it” and send them out of the room. Choose one player to be the “Dance Teacher” and have the kids scatter
around the play area.
When you start the music have the Dance Teacher initiate a
dance move and the other players imitate it. Let the player who is “it” back in to the room to try and guess who is
leading the dance. The Dance Teacher
must continuously change their dance moves without being caught. If the person who is “it” correctly guesses
who the Dance Teacher is, they become “it”. If you are short on time you can give everybody a chance by choosing two
new people to be “it” and the “Dance Teacher” each new game.
Balloon
Stomp- Stomping may be against the rules in your house but that is
what makes this game so much fun! For this game you will need balloons and
rubber bands. Blow up as many balloons as
needed, each player can have one balloon or two. Put a balloon around each player’s ankle by
stretching a rubber band around their foot and over their sock. As you play music the kids all stomp around
trying to pop each others balloons. The
last player with a balloon is the winner.
Jungle
Knot- This twisted game needs requires team effort! Begin the game
by having the kids stands in a circle extending their right hand and grabbing
somebody else’s hand. Repeat with the
left hand. The kids must try to
untangle their hands however they can without letting go, it may be tricky but
possible!
